As part of Open House Melbourne we ran two guided tours celebrating the legacy of the former General Motors Holden factory and showcasing the exciting future for the site as the Fishermans Bend Innovation Precinct.

The former GM-Holden factory was at the centre of Melbourne’s industrial heyday. Developed from the 1930s onwards, it played a critical role in Australia’s WW2 effort. In the decades that followed, the Holden name became synonymous with providing quality manufacturing jobs for thousands of Victorians and recent arrivals to Australia.  Holden’s proud legacy in manufacturing, engineering and design excellence have laid the foundations for the exciting future to come.

We were also lucky to have a few vintage Holdens at Shed 21 on the day, showcasing some of the design and innovation that was made here in Fishermans Bend.

The tour was presented in partnership between the City of Melbourne,  Development Victoria and the Fishermans Bend Taskforce at the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.
